Visions of 42nd Street

Not really late night TV although some of these films were shown on television but what better way to see them than on 42nd Street in Times Square?! New trailer for an upcoming documentary on the history of 42nd Street theaters.

Trapped Inside WPIX

I'm not from New York but I'm pretty sure there WPIX TV is similar to Philadelphia's WPHL 17 or WGBS Channel 48 from the past. Here's is a cool montage of shows from WPIX's lineup.

The Doll Squad

Just finished watching the documentary American Grindhouse on the late night side of things and as I'm trying to figure out what to watch next The Doll Squad mysteriously falls from the shelf. I guess I'll be watching that before I doze off.

The Joystick Era

I have to admit that I've spent a few late nights back in the 80's watching this on VHS. This was the height of the joystick era where arcades were not only popular but still a quarter and a home wasn't complete without a game console. I was into any film that showcased computers, arcades and teens getting into trouble.

The Thing!

One of my favorite movies of all time that I've spent a countless number of late nights watching on VHS, Cinemax and HBO is John Carpenter's The Thing. Well it looks like it's getting a remake (like everything else) but they've done a great job with designing the new poster for it which actually has a classic and similar feel to the original. Hopefully the film will be just as classic. Here's the original Trailer, old poster and new one.

Machete Maidens Unleashed

New Documentary being released the end of this month, looks worthy of a purchase!

Werewolves on Wheels (1971)

I've been seeing this trailer for an insane amount of years but have never owned (until recently)or watched this movie. Since I've been in the mood to watch flix that I haven't seen yet I think I'll throw this in the deck tonight and check it out.

One Bad Brotha

In anticipation of the upcoming Soul Flexin' Party that I'll be DJing in San Diego in a few weeks I've decided that I will be in Jim Kelly Mode mode for a minute.

"Shaft" Sticks It To The Man!

This week marks a very important one in black cinema history, 40 years ago Richard Roundtree played the leading role as John Shaft in the film Shaft. The film did so well at the box office that it spawned two films after that, Shaft's Big Score and Shaft in Africa.

One Great Sleuth

One of the greatest sleuth's (Detective for you non mystery types) and television icon has passed away today, Pete Falk aka Columbo. Columbo was one of my favorite detective shows of all time that I used to watch as a kid. He was always snooping around, being a problem and always barking up the wrong tree but he always solved the case. He wasn't a clean cut Magnum P.I. type of guy but more of the wrinkled care free cigar smoking detective with a very unforgettable personality.

Raiders of The Lost Ark

This past weekend the entire Indiana Jones movies were on and of course on a rainy Sunday when there's nothing else to do I watched alot of television. Raiders is one of those movies that I always watch but have never over watch it to the point where it gets old. I've seen it in the theaters, on cable when it made its debut, network television with commercials on DVD and and even owned the Atari 2600 game and it still has the same effect.
