JAWS!

So while on the plane on my trip to Sweden I decided to watch Jaws which I haven't sat down an watched in a minute. Jaws actually still comes on TV alot these days but I figure might as well kill some time during the long journey. Here's another little tidbit of info, Jaws was actually the very first blockbuster that started the whole summer blockbuster craze thats going on now.

**The last Drive-In theater that I went to was actually to see Jaws. Damn I miss those Drive-In movie theater days!

The Original Reality TV Show

Way before reality tv became a wack reality with shows like Real World/Road Rules challenge and other garbage, Battle of the Network Stars was the shit! Putting stars from all three major networks (ABC, NBC, CBS)against each other doing different events. Everything from track and field, tug of war and more all for major cash prizes. Sorry MTV, your 30 years to late!

Perfect Combination

Cars and broads.....

You just don't get the hot broad doing advertisement for car companies anymore. Farah Fawcett was definitely the blond bombshell back in the days, rather see her than those crash test dummies! Peep the leather interior on this puppy!

Doctor Shock (Horror Theater)

Now this is classic! Filmed in Philly and aired on Saturdays was the classic show Dr. Shock's Horror Theater. He used to show all of the horror films on Saturdays back in the 70's. There was so much shit to watch on network television back then!

Holiday Marathons

Talking to my man Fredy Blast, who by the way has the illest collection of rare video footage, tv shows, movies etc. about holiday marathons on tv and how dope they are when your favorite joints are shown from sun up to sun down. Today which is Memorial Day, SciFi channel is showing the Land of The Lost marathon and though I already have these stashed away on VHS I decided to sit and watch a good portion while I enjoyed a little Beer and Barbeque. Once again, it sucks that they are making yet another remake of a classic show into a damn movie. Come with some new ideas will you!

Underground Forever!

Ok, so its Memorial Day weekend around 1:30am and Im flipping thru some movies and decide to settle on The Taking of Pelham 123, classic! Now I've been saying for the last few years that Hollywood is out of ideas and needs to stop with the remakes of classic movies so why are they doing a remake?? Here's the origianal theatrical trailer.

Amusement park madness.

Now here's another one of those NBC Made for TV movies that aired back in 1978. Once again, this is something that could never exist today even if you put your favorite pop / rap star in it. I Cant front, those KISS getups used to kinda scare me.

Commercials

Earlier today while watching Terminator on AMC a lightbulb clicked in my head that I was actually watching a movie that had commercials and it actually didn't bother me, espcially since I've seen it a million times. It was just like watching a movie back in the pre-cable days on network television. So how come I cant bring myself to do this on a regular basis when there are networks like HBO, Cinemax and Starz? Don't get me wrong, I love not seeing commericals, there bullshit nowadays anyway but they were apart of the television experience back then, now no one cares about them unless its during the Super Bowl.

Just a thought.

Whiz Kids

I've always been up on home computer technology way before the Internet made it big! Besides already being involved in this Hip Hop shit, the earlys 80's had me wrapped up into computers as well. Having already owned a Commodore Vic-20, Commodores 64 and an Apple II movies like "War Games" and shows like Saturday morning's "Whiz Kids" was a must to watch whenever it was shown.

Whiz Kids was about this group of teens that would solve crimes using their bedroom computer and also aid a local newspaper reported in the process.

I recently broke out my old VHS of this show to see if it stood the test of time and to be honest with you for nostalgia reasons yes, if your watching it for the first time, no.

The Mod Squad

Now the Mod Squad....Thats a cool bunch of m*therf*ckers right there! Need I say anymore? Once again, this is one of those shows that was recently remade into a suck ass waste of time and money! Some things just cant be duplicated.

36th Chambers of Shaolin

Also known as Master Killer in the United States. This wasn't the first kung fu flick that I had seen on Saturday afternoon UHF television but it was one of those that would be shown on a regular. I had already experienced going to the theaters and seeing kung fu flicks but it was something about watching it at home and then throwing on your kung fu outfit with the slippers to match afterwards and heading outside to escape the weekend chores like a Shaolin runaway. In retrospect that was some fun shit!! Why dont kids have fun like this anymore??

Here's the memorable intro, if you dont remember anything else about the movie you definitely remember this.

Caaan yooouuu diggg iiittt!?

Now I cant lie, I didn't see The Warriors in the movie theater, but I did catch it when they showed it on tv back in the days so I guess Im still ahead of most of the people that caught it 10 or so years later when it was released on dvd. Once again ABC comes thru with the Friday night movie as always! If this was the current time television ratings on Friday nights would suck because everyone would be out drinking and partying, boy times have changed. Also another little known fact that most people dont know is that there are 2 different intros to the warriors, there the TV version which starts out totally different than the movie version.

Get Smart

No not the recent movie remake damnit, the original series!! Get Smart is a comedic spoof of the spy movie genre with silly gadgets and weapons. Maxwell Smart, Agent 99 and the rest of "Control" go head to head against the "KAOS Agents".

The Death of Ocean View Park

The ABC Movies of the week used to show the craziest direct to television movies of any other broadcasting network. There extremely popular horror and suspense movies were my favorites especially during the 70's. The concepts of these movies would never fly if introduced now, but they are still better than what is being produced today! Peep the station id intros that were used during that time, classic.

Night Gallery

This is one of the first shows that would scare the shit out of me. Night Gallery aired around midnight and just the sound of the intro alone was horrifying. I was first introduced to Night Gallery by my uncle who knew everything about every TV show back in the day, a true conniseur to! The intro alone
