Gerry Anderson (RIP)

Wow!  Can't believe the the legendary Gerry Anderson has passed away.  Seems that most of our creative minds are leaving us and all seem to be around the same dates every year.  For those that know who Gerry Anderson is I don't have to tell you about his amazing TV shows, everything from Captain Scarlet to Thunderbirds Are Go to Space 1999, this man filled many hours of my television life.

Six Million Dollar Man Rare TV Spot

I have yet to breakdown on buying the Six Million Dollar Man DVD set and that's probably because I have more than enough episodes that I recorded to VHS years ago to keep me satisfied when I get the urge to watch a few.

Film School with R.A. The Rugged Man

One of my favorite sections from the old Mass Appeal magazine's was R.A. The Rugged Man's film column where he talked about classic horror films on VHS.  Looks like he's back with an episode of Film School where he visits his parents house to dig in the garage for a few Big Box VHS'.

Planet of The Vampires

Since we've been stuck here on the East Coast going though this crazy Hurricane Sandy storm I've had plenty of time to lounge around and watch a few flicks.  Tonights viewing is the 1965 film, Planet of The Vampires.

What Are Your Kids Watching This Halloween?

With Halloween right around the corner I've been in the mood to pull out some of my favorite flicks on VHS while enjoying a cold beer and popcorn.  Hammer Horror films are always the go to films when starting my marathon of blood thirsty characters which seems to be the same with most but let's take a look at what some of kids are watching these days on this special 20/20 report on VCR Horrors.

A Man Called Blade

I've been on a Spaghetti Western vibe lately so last night I popped in the VHS for A Man Called Blade which I haven't watched in years.  Still as violent and bloody as I remembered it to be, although not as good as so many other Westerns that I've seen but still fun to rewatch it from time to time.

Master of The Flying Guillotine 1975

It's great to see a few Martial Arts flicks making it's way to the big screen especially Quentin Tarantino and The RZA's Man With The Iron Fist.  But today I caught wind of the official trailer for The Guillotines which made me realize that I haven't watched the classic 1975 "Master of The Flying Guillotine" starring Jimmy Wang Yu in quite some time yet I watch the Shaw Brothers version "The Flying Guillotine" often.

Maybe I'll burn the midnight oil and pull out this VHS and give it a view.

The Return of Magma Taishi

Since I'm in Japan DJing for my Magma Taishi Returns Tour it's only right that I post the both intros (Japanese & American versions) to one of my favorite shows growing up, Ambassador Magma Taishi aka Space Giants.  It's amazing how things such as an intro can be reinterpreted and switched for different countries but still having the same effect

Saturday TV Goodness

Shouts to the folks over at Daily Grindhouse!  Nuff said.

Django By Name

It's been a minute since I've watched any of the Django flix but since Tarantino is throwing his own spin on the name I thought I should go back and have a little midnight Western marathon.

Still An Adventure

On this particular day in 1984 Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom was released in theaters.  I don't know how many times I've watched this trilogy but it's more than the amount of fingers I have on both hands.

Late Night Viewing

Looks like it's going to be a late night of TV viewing for me on this  Friday night.  Fellow film buff fam Blax shot me a text informing me that a couple of classics are showing tonight, Ganja & Hess (1973) and The Slams starring Jim Brown.  So it's off to take a disco nap then back up at 2:30am to get some TV time in.

The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3

There's very few flicks that I can watch on a regular basis and The Taking of Pelham 123 is one of them. There's just something about gritty 1970s New York City crime movies that I've always loved and this movie definitely captures that feeling and look of old NY (minus the hijacked subway of course).

Behind The Wheel of "The Car"

It's been a minute since I've watched this 1977 Carsploitation classic but I decided to dig it out the box on this late Friday night.

Shogun Assassin

Shogun Assassin is one of those flix that I've caught more than few times on late night Cinemax back in the 80's, but unlike alot of othter Kung Fu flix I never got to see this on the big screen.

Krull (1983)

Don't know why but I've been in this crazy mood to watch these cheezy early 80's SciFi flix lately so I pulled out the VHS of Krull (1983). Why? Who knows's maybe it's the memories of late night HBO or Cinemax viewings.

Easy Escape

Rewind This!

There's a great documentary being filmed called Rewind This! The documentary is about what else? the VHS tape, it's collectors and the stories behinds peoples fascination of having them. Just like with any other collectibles the passion for the VHS runs deep driving people to pay big bucks on the market for rare, obscure and scarce titles. But it's not just about the rare but also about the nostalgia the goes along with it.

They've started a Kickstarter campaign to help raise funds for the completion of this project.

If you can spare a few dollar please help by contributing to the cause.
